How to apply

Surfaces
  • Nitotile GPX can be applied directly on concrete, cement screeds, & cement plaster. Special attention must be given to new construction prior to commencing tiling.
  • Tiles should not be placed on concrete or brickwork until all shrinkage movement has taken place.
Surface Preparation:
  • All surfaces must be sound and thoroughly clean before Nitotile GPX is applied. All traces of grease or oil must be removed with a chemical degreaser. All loose particles of mortar, old wallpaper, paint etc. must be physically removed.
  • Make sure the substrate is flat and in sound conditions to achieve uniform thickness & coverage. If level variation on floor or wall is more than an average 12 mm ( Excluding intentional), surface preparation as required to bring the surface true to plumb level shall be taken up with appropriate material
  • Saturate the surface thoroughly and remove excess water before the application of Nitotile GPX. For porous substrates, it is recommended to use suitable primer
Mixing:

Nitotile GPX should be mixed with clear potable water in the water powder ratio of 0.25 to 0.28. A slow speed drill fitted with a mixing paddle is recommended for mixing.Add powder to water and mix until a uniform, lump-free consistency is achieved. The total quantity of water may be slightly adjusted to achieve the required consistency.

Application:
  • Make sure that required amount of adhesive shall be mixed & used within the specified pot life. Spread not more than the area which can be tiled within the open time of the adhesive.
  • Using a notch trowel, uniformly comb the tile adhesive to required thickness.
  • Firmly fix the tiles into position with a slight twisting action, ensuring good contact without leaving any voids behind tiles.
  • Tiles should be fi xed within specifi ed open time of adhesive, depending on the porosity of the substrate and atmospheric conditions. Adhesive ribs can be checked periodically and if a skin has formed, remove the adhesive and apply a new layer.
  • Spacers & corner beads of required dimensions shall be used to maintain adequate joints between individual tiles on horizontal or vertical areas.
  • Remove any excess adhesive from the tiles and joints with a damp sponge or cloth before it sets. Leave for at least one day before application of tile grouts. It is recommended to use Nitotile cementitious/epoxy tile grouts.

Cleaning

Nitotile GPX should be removed from tools, equipment and mixers with clean water immediately after use. Cured material can only be removed mechanically.

Limitations

Nitotile GP should not be used when the temperature is below 5°C. The product should not be exposed to moving water during application. If any doubt arise concerning temperature or substrate conditions, consult your local Fosroc office.

Health and safety
  • Nitotile GPX contains cement powders which, when mixed with water or upon becoming damp, release alkalis which can be harmful to the skin. Hence, use hand gloves of type Butyl Rubber and vinyl.
  • During use, avoid inhalation of the dust and contact with the skin or eyes. Wear suitable protective clothing – eye protection, gloves and respiratory equipment, particulate filter, type P2 (particularly in confi ned spaces).
  • The use of barrier creams to provide additional skin protection is also advised. In case of contact with the skin, rinse with plenty of clean water, then cleanse thoroughly with soap and water. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water and seek medical advice. If swallowed seek medical attention immediately – do not induce vomiting.
